How to Apply to the Educational Leadership & Administration Program

Step 1: Cal State Apply Application (NO LATER than April 1st

  1. Submit a graduate application to Cal Poly through Cal State Apply by the deadline. Please visit the Cal State Apply FAQ for more information. You will be required to upload the following to your Cal State Apply application*:
    • Masters & Credential
      • A copy of your unofficial transcripts
      • Unofficial transcripts for all other colleges/universities (if applicable)
      • CV/Resume
      • Name and email of 3 individuals to submit a letter of recommendation
      • Completed ELAP Questionnaire containing each of the following:
        • A one-page statement that expresses your philosophy of educational leadership
        • A two-page statement that elaborates on your career goals in leadership.
      • Statement from your district/agency verifying proof of a minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience in the use of your clear teaching/service credential
      • Photocopy of your valid clear Teaching Credential or appropriate clear service credential as specified by California law and regulation
      • Photocopy of a passing score on the CBEST. If you are from another state, or if your credential was earned before CBEST was required, document completion of the CBEST within two academic quarters of acceptance into the program

      • Masters Only
        • A copy of your unofficial transcripts
        • Unofficial transcripts for all other colleges/universities (if applicable)
        • CV/Resume
        • Name and email of 3 individuals to submit a letter of recommendation
        • Masters only applicants are required to upload a completed ELAP Questionnaire in Word or PDF format using the following form:

          * Please note that all of the listed items are required to submit your application 
    • Pay the $55 application fee online

      Before submitting your Cal State Apply Application, ensure that you have successfully completed the following:
      • Cumulative higher education grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 for your last 60 semester or 90 quarter units. 
      • GRE is NOT required
      • We encourage ALL applicants to apply for financial aid in order to be eligible for any School of Education scholarship opportunities.

    Step 2: Official Transcripts (NO LATER than April 1st)

    • Submit one official transcript from all colleges and universities attended other than Cal Poly directly to the Admissions Office. (Cal Poly degree holders do not need to provide these transcripts unless coursework was taken after posting of your degree). Instructions for submitting you for official transcripts can be found at the following link:

      • Applicants must be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree earned from a regionally accredited institution at the time they begin the program.

    Step 3: 3-5 Minute Video (NO LATER than April 1st)
