Introduction to the resource guide:
The resources on this page were intentionally curated to support pre- and in-service teachers, and other education professionals in learning about and engaging in teaching practices that humanize schooling experiences for our K-12 students, support students in building a healthy sense of identity, and empower students to advocate and work towards change when facing issues of discrimination or injustice.
The resources in this guide are organized into Themes. Below you can find a few examples of the Themes, which are based on their potential purpose for educators:
- Identity Development for K-12 Students: Activities, curriculum, or useful information for supporting K-12 students in developing a healthy understanding of their own identity.
- Learning About Critical Pedagogies: Information that supports teachers in developing their own understanding of various forms of education, such as multicultural, culturally responsive, culturally relevant/sustaining, abolitionist, social justice, and anti-bias anti-racist (ABAR) teaching.
- Curriculum & Teaching Resources: Resources that provide, or support teachers in developing, activities or lessons that focus on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, both within specific content areas or for more general purposes.
- Children & Young Adult Book Lists: Curated book lists that include children's books and young adult literature that support students in learning about issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
How to use the resource guide:
This guide is first broken down by resource type i.e. books, websites, or social media handles. Under each resource type, you will find resources listed within "Themes" by using the drop-down menu option. Examples of "Themes" are "Learning About Critical Pedagogies" or "Children & Young Adult Book Lists". If you'd like to dig even deeper, you can utilize the specified "Topics" found in the far right column of the resource tables. These "Topics" will help you find resources that cover exactly what you're looking for!
Contribute to the resource guide:
If you have additional resources to share, you can do so by completing this Social Justice Resource Submission Form. Once your form is submitted, your suggested resources will be reviewed by our faculty and if approved, added to the resource guide. Resources will be updated quarterly.
Have fun exploring this expansive resource guide specifically sourced and researched by our School of Education Faculty!

Authors (from recommended books)
What resources do the School of Education Faculty & Staff recommend?
Brittany Blunk (she/her/hers), a School of Education Credential Analyst recommends Demystifying Disability! Blunk shares,"This book really expanded on my understanding of disability and its nuances. Emily Ladau's writing and voice are so approachable and honest; she explains complicated concepts in ways that make sense and have helped me become more open-minded and a better ally. I can not recommend this book enough! Also with art by Tyler Feder, it's a win-win. |
