School of Education Hosts Event with Pulitzer Prize Winner Sonia Nazario

Each year, the School of Education brings a well-known author to the Central Coast. In November, Cal Poly welcomed Sonia Nazario, author of “Enrique’s Journey.Nazario, a journalist and activist, retraced the perilous journey that thousands of unaccompanied children take from Honduras to the U.S. to be reunited with their parents. Nazario was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for her coverage of the story.

Over 200 students, staff, faculty and community members attended Nazario’s talk and book signing at Cal Poly’s Chumash Theater. During her visit, Nazario also spoke to students at Paso Robles High School, where she was welcomed by the school’s award-winning journalism team.

The event was co-sponsored by the School of Education’s Spanish Authorization for Bilingual Educators (SABE) program, Cal Poly Cross Cultural Center, the Modern Languages and Literatures Department, and the Chicana Latino Faculty and Staff Association.
